The Bennu Firebirds series have 3 books and a short story between the book 1 and 2: Kade story.
I recommend you to read first the book and after this one to better understand the dynamics of the storyline
Kade have a secret that not even his family know and the feelings he have for a certain baseball player make it more complicated...
What starts as friendship grows into something more but even after years Kade is still not ready to come out and try to make sure to not show he is falling in love with his best friend. And not a teenager love as he know that it's a love for life
Brent in another hand came out pretty early and don't mind to wait for Kade but it is difficult to understand that boy when after every party he take a random girl to hookup. Brent's heart is starting to break little by little and Kade need to hurry.
Even if only less than 100 pages you can see how deep this love goes and you want to take Kade by the shoulders and yell at him that he can loose Brent at any minute!
But we need to be real: how many young people are scared to come out? The bullying is severe and the risk of the family don't accept even bigger. It's a scary world for anyone that is not under the "correct" standard. Not to add that Brent and Kade want to be professional baseball players and that, sadly, can ruin the possibility of any big offer.
But we need to remember that not everyone will judge and they will show love and support and I was expecting a lot of support in this book because we need to see it!
I was more than happy to read Kade's father reaction and the epilogue? oh gosh... cliché for sure but I mean a very good cliché
